Previously also known as Melkmeisje, I started working on the perfume from a brief to interpret a work of art from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam into an (art)object in another discipline. I choose the painting Melkmeisje (the Milkmaid) by Vermeer as it is an iconic work of art and millions of people come to Amsterdam every year to see it. Also, I though it would make for an unusual perfume as the light and the objects depicted hardly qualify for your typical perfume brief. I started out with a quite literal interpretation of the painting and when the result became wearable I left it at that. Then about a month later the idea came to actually release it. So, I started working on it a bit more. As the perfume progressed I found myself researching more and more the context of the painting instead of the actual image. The more I kept examining the perfume the more I projected my own ideas about the girls surroundings/time of year/mood and my own thoughts and feelings of that time in the perfume. The result: a perfume filled with sun beams and joy!
